About Us
Interpret-Ears
Alexander Fernandez was raised in a Deaf Cuban household where American Sign Language, English, and Spanish were part of daily life. Becoming an interpreter was not simply a career decision, but a natural extension of his life and lived experience. Through his work in the field, he recognized that interpreting required more than availability, it required standards.
As a native Miamian, Alexander understands that South Florida is a vibrant convergence of cultures, yet the Deaf community often remains unseen within that diversity. Growing up in a Deaf home gave him access to a cultural perspective many never experience. Deaf culture and the broader community share creativity, resilience, and expressiveness, yet without intentional and skilled mediation, they often remain disconnected.
As a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults, Alexander learned early that interpreting is not merely language conversion. It requires cultural fluency, ethical judgment, discretion, and professional discipline. Over time, he observed a shift within the industry toward brokerage models that compete primarily on price. When rates are driven down and interpreters are treated as expendable contractors, service quality and cultural integrity inevitably suffer. Sustainable communication requires sustainable professionals.
In a region where nationally certified interpreters remain limited and demand continues to grow, standards matter. Credentialing matters. Ethical service delivery matters. Established in 2005, Interpret-Ears was built to redefine what quality interpreting should look like in South Florida. Grounded in professionalism, fair compensation, cultural competence, and accountability. Since then, we have partnered with healthcare providers, legal institutions, government entities, educational systems, and private organizations that value precision and reliability.
We prioritize qualified, credentialed interpreters. We uphold nationally recognized standards of practice. We maintain clear contractual expectations rooted in mutual respect, not control. At Interpret-Ears, communication is not a commodity. It is entrusted to us, and our standards reflect that responsibility.
